What Is Die-Hard Night?

“Just a reminder, fans, comin’ up is our “Die-hard Night” here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won a pennant.”

-Harry Doyle from Major League

Those words were spoken by the immortal, albeit fictional, Indians radio broadcaster, Harry Doyle.  Although they were said 20+ years ago, those words still ring true to this day for the Indians as well as the Cavaliers and Browns.  While we’ve come close to winning it all that on numerous occasions, the city’s first title since 1964 still eludes us.  But alas, hope springs eternal.

Cleveland is a city that lives and dies with its sports teams.  We are passionate, cynical, and down right insane at times.  It is this passion for these teams that has led me to start this site; to serve as a place for all of that crazy to come together.  Like all of you I am dying to see a title.

Unfortunately, I now reside in New Orleans, Louisiana which is about 1000 miles from the city I grew up in.  I can’t go to games, I have to scour the internet for every available piece of Cleveland sports news, and finding games on tv and the internet is like Indiana Jones searching for the Ark of the Covenant (It’s not easy).

This site is my way of continuing to participate in Cleveland sports fandom.  By updating regularly with my own thoughts and opinions regarding what’s going on in C-town, I can once again feel like I’m a part of it all.  So let’s all just sit back, relax and enjoy our time together as we continue to ask ourselves that timeless Cleveland question, “Why do I do this to myself?”

About the author: Born and raised in the Cleveland suburbs, Brian grew up rooting for the Browns, Cavs, and Indians along with the occasional forray into cheering for other teams and players.  In the Fall of 2009, he left home for a job in New Orleans, LA and has been rooting from afar.  Starting that summer Brian became a regular contributor to the popular Cleveland sports blog, Cleveland Reboot.  While working with Cleveland Reboot, Brian focused primarily on the Cavaliers and Indians, with the occassional national story thrown in.  But all good things must come to an end, and that brings us to the here and now.  Brian will be updating regularly about all of Cleveland’s sports teams focusing primarily on those which are in season.  He will also make brief commentaries on national headlines as well.  Please feel free to comment.  If you enjoy the site, let him know.  If not, let him know that too.  The goal is to produce an enjoyable and high caliber site for Cleveland sports commentary.

  1. Very nice, Brian. Great background and header. I’ll be checking back and will subscribe to your blog. Please check out any of my 3 blogs, thenewsofsports.wordpress.com, videogamesguide.wordpress.com, and freshfantasyhelp.wordpress.com.
P.S. Even though I’m not a Cleveland sports fan, this blog is a very good read.

    1. Thanks. That’s probably one of the best compliments I’ve gotten about this site. I’m glad my passion for these teams has shown through to people that don’t know me.

  2. I just came across the fact you are currently based in New Orleans. Anyone who reads your column has to assume you’re in the heart of Cleveland. You write with so much passion and conviction…and knowledge. So impressed all this Cleveland coverage is coming from the Bayou. Now I like the site even more!

    1. Thanks, I really appreciate it. And it mainly is in part to the fact that I have the kind of job where I can sit on the computer all day and stream cleveland sports radio and read news on sports websites all day long. The other part is i spent the first 25 years of my life there, i love that place… even if the rest of America thinks it’s the country’s arm pit
