Thank God that’s over.
I don’t know how much more of this I… and my liver… could take.
This was supposed to be a year where the Browns showed improvement. This was supposed to be the year Colt McCoy took the reigns and gave us the first true franchise quarterback since Bernie Kosar. The Browns were supposed to be decent!
It was never meant to be… but why?
Sure you can point at Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert for a lack of playmakers on offense. You could point at Pat Shurmur and genuine inability to call decent plays or put his players in a position to succeed. Then there are the players themselves. For the most part… they were awful, or hurt, or not talented enough, or awful… wait I said that already. If you really want to grasp at straws you could even make a case for the Browns uniform attire. In the preseason they actually wore brown and surprise! They actually looked decent. During the regular season it was white on white for 17 weeks and sure enough, they played like crap.
Desperate much? Why yes… Yes I am as a matter of fact.
So now that the Cleveland Whites… errr… Cleveland Browns have finished up another dreadful 4-12 season, where do they go from there. Well, for starters, the Browns will pick 4th in the upcoming draft which means they should have the chance to pick up one hell of a player. Unless of course they trade down to select another lineman. If that happens, so help me God I will riot. But in all seriousness they should be in position to draft Trent Richardson, Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, or even Robert Griffin III should the decide Colt McCoy isn’t the guy.
The Browns also have quite a bit of money available to spend in the free agent market. They could go after a guy like Matt Flynn who in his most recent performance filling in for Aaron Rodgers threw for over 400 yards and 6 touchdowns. I think he’s look great in Brown and Orange next year… wait, white and orange, sorry. They could also use their available cap space to bring in a veteran wide receiver to help mold Justin Blackmon into a top level NFL wideout.
Yes… we are drafting Justin Blackmon if he’s available. I don’t care what the Browns think or say. Did any of you watch the Fiesta Bowl? He’s unstoppable and he has a bit of an edge to him. When OK State was down 14-0 he had a “get me the dan ball” moment on the sidelines. Well, they got him the damn ball and all he did was score 3 touchdowns. You mean to tell me the Browns couldn’t use someone like that? If I have to watch another year of Josh Cribbs learn the position, Greg Little drop passes, and Mo Mass get concussed I’m going to scream.
This is a big offseason for this regime. They promised to deliver us a winner and after 2 years in we’re no closer than we were in 1999. No, I’m not exaggerating. Our offensive guru and his spectacular offense scored one more point this year than the Tim Couch led 1999 expansion team. You can’t make stuff like that up. We still might not have a QB and half the roster would be unwanted by the rest of the league. That’s not progress. That’s the same old Browns.
So here we go. It’s another offseason in which we get to watch the Steelers, Ravens, and even the Bengals venture into the playoffs with hopes of reaching the Super Bowl while we sit and bitterly watch from our couches. It’s time to change something… anything. It’s time for this regime to do what they came here to do and put some playmakers on the field and build us a winner.
It’s time for progress…
